ACTUAL CHARGES The total cost of the move from start to finish.
ADDITIONAL CHARGES Any charges not included in our hourly rate, such as packing materials, unavoidable toll charges and equipment rental fee's when needing to utilize a shuttle truck. See also Shuttle Service. If you have concerns about any additional charges, please speak to your agent with Sooner Moving Company.
ADDITIONAL SERVICES Services such as packing, unpacking, extra stop or shuttle that you request (or are necessary because of landlord requirements or other special circumstances). These services are charged at our normal hourly rate.
AGENT Your contact person with Sooner Moving Company. The agent may handle the booking, origin, hauling and/or destination services.
APPLIANCE SERVICE Preparation of appliances to make them safe for transportation. This does not include the disconnecting of plumbing or electrical service. See Third-Party Service.
ASSEMBLY The process of putting household goods, (most commonly beds, tables, etc.) together at the final destination.
BILL OF LADING Customer's receipt for goods and contract for transportation. The customer's signature acknowledges that the household goods can be loaded on the van and released to Sooner Moving Company.
BULKY ARTICLE To ensure safe transportation, some articles included in a shipment (e.g., pianos, large screen TVs, motorcycles, exercise equipment, etc.) may require extra handling. Sooner Moving will bring materials to properly prepare these items for moving, however extra time should be expected when handling these types of articles.
CARRIER The moving company providing transportation of household goods under whose Department of Transportation registration the shipment is moved. In this case, your carrier is Sooner Moving Company in Oklahoma.
CLAIM Statement of loss, damage, or delay to a household good shipment, whether in whole or in part, while in the care, custody or control of Sooner Moving Company.
COD (CASH ON DELIVERY) Shipments where the customer pays the moving charges at the time of delivery. For COD shipments, payment is required in cash or by traveler's check, money order or cashier's check. If a credit card is used, it must be arranged with your Sooner Moving agent because authorization is required prior to loading. Personal checks are not accepted.
COMMERCIAL SHIPMENT A shipment of non-household goods.
DAMAGE When a piece of property arrives at the destination in a condition different from pick-up.
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (DOT) A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
DESTINATION AGENT The agent designated in the destination area to be available to assist or provide information regarding the shipment to the customer or the van operator.
DISASSEMBLY The process of taking household goods, (most commonly beds, tables, etc.) apart prior to loading on the moving van.
DIVERSION When a customer changes the destination of their shipment after it is loaded. Due to the lack of proper planning, this can result in a longer commute, and therefore a more expensive move.
DOLLY A small platform on rollers or wheels used to handle freight.
DOMESTIC SHIPMENT A shipment moving within the continental United States
ELEVATOR, STAIR CARRY AND LONG CARRY CHARGE It should be expected by the customer that any one or more of these services necessary to accomplish pickup and/or delivery will result in a longer and more expensive move.
ESTIMATE An estimate is an approximation by Sooner Moving Company, of the total move costs based on the amount of household items being moved, distance being traveled and any additional services requested. An estimate is not binding on Sooner Moving Company, and the final charges will be based on the total amount of time taken to complete the job, times our current hourly rate.
EXCLUSIVE USE OF VEHICLE The customer may request that Sooner Moving provide exclusive use of a vehicle for shipment. It is worth noting that it is extraordinarily rare for Sooner Moving Company to ever add one customers load to another. If you have concerns, please discuss this with your agent.
EXTRA LABOR Hourly labor charge (15 minute minimum) for performing any requested services such as removing/placing items in attics/crawlspaces, packing/unpacking owner's furnished containers, etc.
EXTRA PICKUP OR DELIVERY Consideration should be given when requesting more then a single pickup and/or delivery point as additional time will be needed to complete each stop, which will result in a more expensive move.
FOUR-WHEEL DOLLY A low truck or cart with four wheels used for moving heavy loads.
FUEL SURCHARGE Sooner Moving Company does not charge a fuel surcharge. Any additional fuel needed for distance traveled is incorporated into our flat hourly rate.
FULL-SERVICE PACKING & UNPACKING At our customers request, Sooner Moving Company will provide packing and/or unpacking services. The time taken to provide these services will effect the time needed to complete the move.
HELPER A person hired by the van operator or agent to assist in the loading and unloading of goods.
HIGH-VALUE ARTICLE Any item of high-value to our customer; such as items of high monetary value, sentimental value, etc. Please notify your agent prior to move date of any high-value articles you have so that we are able to ensure they are protected accordingly.
HOUSEHOLD GOODS Personal goods or property used or to be used in a home.
INTERNAL PACKAGING The supporting of goods inside a package to protect against damage during transportation.
INVENTORY A detailed descriptive list of the items in the shipment and their condition before the van is loaded.
LOAD DATE The date on which the shipment is actually picked up.
LOCAL MOVE A move within a particular geographical area instead of a state or country. Sooner Moving Company in Oklahoma considers all moves within a 200 mile radius of our home office a local move.
LONG CARRY Carrying goods the distance from the van to the outside entrance of a home or inside entrance of an apartment in excess of 75 feet. See also: Elevator, Stair Carry and Long Carry Charge.
METHOD OF PAYMENT Payment to Sooner Moving must be in the form of cash, traveler's checks, money order, a bank cashier's check or a credit card. Credit card payment must be approved prior to loading. Personal checks are not accepted without prior approval of a Manager.
MISREPRESENTATION A false statement of fact made with the intent of inducing action by another party.
NON-ALLOWABLE LIST (PROHIBITED ITEMS) Sooner Moving is not able to transport property that can cause contamination or damage to the carrier's property or the property of other customers, (i.e., bug infestations, chemicals, propane tanks, etc.), nor will we remove items that would damage the article or the premises (i.e., furniture that will not fit through doorways). Furthermore, Sooner Moving will not accept liability for items of a perishable nature (food, wine collections, plants, etc.). Please see out FAQ page for more information on items not allowed in the shipment.
ORAL CONTRACT A verbal agreement.
OVERFLOW When articles to be shipped are left behind due to insufficient space on the primary van. In this case, an additional van or return trip will be utilized to complete transportation and delivery.
OVERTIME LOADING & UNLOADING SERVICE If you request loading or unloading on a Sunday or a holiday, an overtime charge will be assessed. This is also true if you request the service to be performed after working hours (i.e., between 7 pm. and 8 am.) on any week day, or when prevailing laws, ordinances or landlord requirements will not allow loading or unloading during normal working hours on week days.
PACKING DATE A date set aside for packing. It is usually one day prior to loading the goods.
PADS Blanket-like padded material used for covering articles of furniture during a shipment.
PBO (PACKED BY OWNER) Articles that are packed by the customer for moving. Extra care will be given when loading items packed by the owner which can save on the overall moving costs, however, Sooner Moving Company cannot be held liable for damage to items caused by improper packing techniques or materials.
PIANO BOARD A device used primarily to move pianos up or down stairs.
professional mover A person that earns a living assisting people with their personal or business relocations.
RAMP A metal, wooden or fiberglass slope used to bridge an incline.
RELOCATION EXPENSES Any financial costs resulting from a relocation.
REPAIRS Fixing an item damaged in transit.
REPLACEMENT COST The cost of replacing property damaged, lost or stolen, with a similar property.
SEMITRAILER A freight-carrying, powerless truck trailer with one or more axles and constructed so that the front end rests upon a truck tractor.
SHIPPER Person for whom we are providing our packing and/or moving services.
SHUTTLE SERVICE Used if the assigned over-the-road van is unable to make a normal pickup or delivery because of physical constraints (extremely narrow road, inadequate parking area for the truck, weak bridge, etc.). A shuttle service is the use of a secondary, smaller vehicle to complete the pickup or delivery. Charges for this service are based on the extra time needed to complete the move. The shipper will also be responsible for any vehicle rental costs should the need arrive.
STAIR CARRY Moving a shipment up or down a flight of stairs. See also, Elevator, Stair Carry and Long Carry Charge.
STORAGE The temporary storage of your household goods by Sooner Moving Company, pending further transportation at a later date. Charges for storage should be discussed (and agreed to), with your agent prior to loading.
SURVEY Performed by a Sooner Moving agent to examine the customer's belongings in order to develop an estimate of move charges.
THIRD-PARTY SERVICE Any moving related service performed by someone other than Sooner Moving Company or its agents at your request or as required by federal, state or local law (e.g., appliance servicing, crating).
TWO-WHEEL DOLLY A hand truck or cart with two wheels used for moving heavy loads.
UNPACKING Removal by Sooner Moving Company staff of the customer's goods from containers and placing them on a flat surface, as well as the disposal of such containers and packing materials. Unpacking service must be performed at the time of delivery unless prior arrangements are made ahead of time with your agent.
VAN The truck used for carrying household goods.
VAN OPERATOR On-site manager in charge of the loading, hauling and unloading of your possessions.
WAITING TIME Additional time spent by the Sooner Moving Staff during the performance of our services that is out of our control, such as waiting for the shipper to arrive on location after our scheduled appointment time, waiting for storage unit offices to open, etc. This additional waiting time is charged at our normal hourly rate.
WALK BOARD A ramp used from a van to the ground to eliminate lifting heavy objects.
WArdrobe (box) A type of large box custom designed with a metal bar at the top used for securely hanging clothes.
